“Buddham saranam gacchami,
Dhammam saranam gacchami,
Sangham saranam gacchami”
The Kathin Chivar Daan (Children's Cheer) is a grand ceremony in the Buddhist tradition, where monks honorably donate robes (Chivars) at the end of the Varshavasa (rainy season). This donation is called "Kathin" because the entire process of making it—from spinning the yarn to weaving, dyeing, and sewing—must be completed within 24 hours, from sunrise to sunrise. This donation is considered conducive to attaining nirvana, and its merit is as immovable as the Himalayan mountains and as hard as a thunderbolt.
The Kathin Chivar Daan will be organized on October 10, 2025, in the premises of Bhadant Gyaneshwar Buddha Vihar in Kushinagar by its Viharadhipati, Venerable Bante Mahendra Ji....
The Kathin Chivar Daan has been organized on October 10, 2025, under the coordination of the Honorable Bante Mahendra Ji (former Minister of State), the Viharadhipati of Bhadant Gyaneshwar Buddha Vihar, located in Kushinagar, the place of Mahaparinirvana of Mahamana Buddha.

Venerable Bhante Mahendra Thero
The Buddha teaches that a peaceful life leads to nirvana, which is ultimate peace, liberation from suffering, and the end of the cycle of rebirth. This path involves following the Middle Way, avoiding excessive indulgence and self-torture, and cultivating virtues such as compassion, nonviolence, and generosity. Nirvana is achieved by destroying the root causes of suffering: greed, hatred, and attachment.
